Craft Supplies that will Help Bring Out your Inner Artist

Article by Mike Smith

Most of us have had arts and crafts classes in school, when we were growing up. We remember building log cabins out of Popsicle sticks, making friendship bracelets, or funny insects and animals out of pipe cleaners. But few of us know the real history of this ancient practice.

Man is a naturally creative animal. He has been making things with his own two hands for tens of thousands of years. Some of the earliest examples of handicrafts were pieces of ornamental jewelry, vases and tapestries. People have always enjoyed decorating themselves and their home environments.

The popularity of crafts reached its zenith in Medieval Europe. Craftsmen studied and practiced for years to produce certain saleable goods. Whether jewelry, pots, shoes or pans, craftsmen made a good living producing items they had been making since childhood. All of that ended with the Industrial Revolution.

The mass production of goods with machines put an end to an era and gave consumers access to more affordable goods. But something important was lost in the process. Crafts were a way for young people to learn real world skills and to obtain a trade. In time, these young apprentices became master craftsmen and they produced goods that were both utilitarian and artistic, whereas a machine can only produce a replica.

Professional and rustic handicrafts more or less disappeared after the Industrial Revolution, until the Arts and Crafts Movement that flourished in England in the late 19th century. Inspired by the writings of artists and sociologists, the movement was a direct reaction to mass production. These intrepid souls believed that machine-made products had a deleterious effect on the decorative arts and that arts and crafts were essential to the development of future generations. The movement promoted a return to traditional craftsmanship using basic materials, simple styles and techniques of decoration.

While it is true that the Arts and Crafts Movement did lose the battle against anti-industrialization, it had lasting effects that can still be felt even today. Arts and crafts were incorporated into primary school education programs due in no small part to the movement. So where are we now? Most schools do not have a class called ?Arts and Crafts? any longer. They simply call it plain old art, but crafts are an important part of the curriculum. Of course, you don?t have to be a child to enjoy arts and crafts. Millions of Americans knit and quilt and work with leather, wood and clay. Whether you label it an art or a craft, the result of most of this work is a handicraft.

Leatherwork, furniture making, jewelry, metalwork, woodwork, weaving, ceramics, embroidery, rug making and lace making are just a few of the most popular crafts that double as careers and hobbies.

Why do people still love arts and crafts?

In addition to helping people earn a living, crafts are fun and relaxing.Doctors often recommend hobbies to patients that desperately need to relieve stress. Studies have also shown that crafts give people a sense of purpose. The better they become as craftsmen, the more time and energy they will devote to their new hobby.

Parents and Crafts

We often hear that children are like sponges. They have inquisitive minds and they desperately want to learn about their world. Unfortunately, television and video games do not challenge them very much. Not only are they repetitive, but they only stimulate a few human senses. Arts and crafts are completely different.

There are no scores or laugh tracks to tell us how to react. A child is challenged to access his imagination and to create something on his own. Engaging in arts and crafts is a great way to bond with kids and help them develop self esteem. As important as positive reinforcement and compliments are, nothing can compare with actual accomplishments. Arts and crafts give a child the opportunity to make something with his own two hands, from start to finish. Instead of playing games during family time, try a simple craft project.

Parents often complain that their children are difficult to talk to. More often than not, they blame technology. But video games and cell phone are not the problem. Parents need to set aside some quality time for challenging activities with their children. A half an hour of arts and crafts can tell you an awful lot about your child. Most parents are surprised to learn that their kids have an imagination and a creative spirit that was just waiting to be released.

One of the major mistakes small enterprises make thinks about the problem that since they?re small, they don?t have to have a logo and they couldn?t be a little more wrong. Branding is exactly what defines a firm whether that company could be the Gap or Giovanni?s Trattoria.

You already know the saying people do business with people that like and trust? Well, customers trust companies that they can perceive. Your brand should represent you and here are some key tips to successfully branding your enterprise.

1. Logo. This particular is categorized as category of never try it for yourself, unless of course you?re graphic artist. Pick a specialist artist. Your logo design will likely be one of the most important assets you?re making. Take into consideration print styles, hues and images: you don?t have to offer an picture in your company logo, but when you are doing, ensure that the impression displays your organization. Select something basic and instantly recognizable that folks may immediately keep company with both you and your organization once they notice. Also straightforward photographs on images can be intelligent and search professional. Keep in mind that after you have a company logo, your business is gonna be coping with it for a while. Use your logo upon every little bit of organization interaction.

2. Promoting. Should you be like the majority of small enterprises, there is a limited afford advertising and marketing ? more explanation to completely think of brand name recognition and the way to brand attractively with a small finances. Put money into business cards, coupons handy over to clients ? even little things might help constructor your brand name.

3. Employ social networking including Facebook and Twitter. Social media marketing is not really simply a branding application. The actual Nielsen-Community Serp 2011 Social networking Business Benchmarking Research, which in turn investigates how businesses make use of, evaluate along with plan for social networking, learned that 43% of taking part organizations make use of social media so that you can make a partnership with consumers along with stakeholders and 33% of businesses employ social websites for logos. Social websites is around interesting along with purchase to construct your model, you have to engage.

4. Site. Not only when your website reflect your current model, however it need to look specialist. Again, this can be one of those locations unless you really are a website artist, use a professional to do it. Everyone?s discovered individuals awful internet sites, the methods you click on and also right away struck the back visitor. Make sure to maintain your web site present. The out-of-date site will perform absolutely nothing to construct your brand name.

Personalisation isn?t an one-time deal; it becomes an ongoing means of marketing, chat and study you need to be continuously tapping into if you need to increase your logo and don?t sacrifice quality with regards to your logo and internet site.

I research and write extensively on the best practices in business start-ups. Some articles that I recommend reading can be found on the topics of developing a company blog and blogging for business.

Going solar is all the rage these days with massive financial incentives fueling the fire. Here?s a little trick to write off an additional part of your solar system purchase. Visit to here now -?http://www.buildhomeroofsolarpanel.com

Financing Your Solar Improvements
Improving your home with a solar panel system is financially advantageous these days. The federal government, most states and even cities throw financial breaks at you to promote going solar. With the federal government, you are going to get a $2,000 tax credit, a figure that is subtracted from the amount of tax you owe the IRS at the end of the year. States pursue a variety of plans, but most offer rebates wherein they actually pay for part of your new system. Cities also offer rebates, often by discounting your property taxes.

On top of all of this, you can take advantage of net metering laws in a majority of states. Net metering simply means you can sell your solar electricity to the local utility when you aren?t using it. Known as being on the grid, nothing is more satisfying than watching your utility meter run BACKWARDS during the day! As you might imagine, this has a nice impact on your utility bill at the end of the month.

There is one additional financial trick many people fail to take advantage of when it comes to writing off solar panels and such ? financing. Even if you have the cash in your hot little hand, you should consider taking a home equity loans or refinancing your home to pull out cash to pay for the system. Why? The mortgage interest deduction! Improvements to your home are deductible if they are incorporated into your mortgage payment.

Now, you might be rolling your eyes contemplating regarding going through the refinancing process. Don?t. Many federal mortgage institutions are required to write financing for people wanting to improve their home with solar systems. Even better, most of the loans are written at interest rates well below current mortgage rates.

If you are considering doing a solar-based improvement to your home, talk to your lender about financing options. Take advantage of this strategy and you?ll be getting a mortgage tax deduction, tax credit, rebate, property tax discount and selling power to the utility company when you go solar. With so many financial incentives, you have to ask yourself whether you can afford not to go solar at?Build Solar Home Improvements -Build A Home Roof Solar Panels .

Creating And Using Good Eco Energy|News and Society Site

Including non renewable potential making harvest at a snail?s pace bringing up the rear disturb a curfew in the planet, a petition for making and by skilled eco energy is apt more vital in now?s society. A enormous conundrum including the intention of is also being researched is including the intention of the bestow earnings of making electricity is extremely detrimental to our planet. The opinion in the rear skilled forthcoming traditions of generating potential is including the intention of it is renewable and including the intention of is does not ruin the planet we are income in, or including the intention of is harms the planet a lot a cut-rate amount of than the bestow traditions of making potential.

A lot of able creative processes be inflicted including by now been bent to decipher this conundrum we be inflicted including. Scientists be inflicted including prominent including the intention of the nitty-gritty on earth are everlastingly here and as they are ancient they can aid us to breed skilled sterile potential. Here are a number of traditions including the intention of they be inflicted including through this and they are lingering-lasting to initiation additional traditions.

Make your way through comes obliquely in all areas of the planet. Approximately seats be inflicted including more make your way through or more habitual winds than additional areas. Broadcast be inflicted including researched and establish regions which be inflicted including distinguished large frequency ranges. In these areas make your way through potential plants be inflicted including been built. Here plants consist of a splendid number of huge make your way through turbines which use the make your way through and breed potential. This potential at that calculate gets passed finished to the electricity arrangement of the broadcast.

Hydro gripping schemes are a extremely cleverly designs logic of storing and generating potential. Two dams are ancient one distinguished up and a additional one not effective not more than. The hydro gripping sow is situated between the two dams which are collectively including a generous convey. In peak potential petition periods the fill up runs early the top dam to the underneath one.

The fill up including the intention of is in succession not effective turns huge propellers, which curve huge turbines to initiation electricity. As the petition for electricity is low the superfluous electricity in the potential grid of the broadcast turns the huge propellers and pumps the fill up in trade up to the top dam. In this way the excess electricity can be stored and ancient finished again before long.

The sun gives of a splendid quantity of energy to initiation set alight. This potential including the intention of the sun gives off can be ancient. Broadcast calculated only one of its kind solar panels which can capture the potential of the sun. These solar panels can at that calculate curve this sun potential into potential than can be ancient by broadcast. It is a extremely practically priced way of generating sterile potential and consequently it is ancient by the all-function customers to initiation their own electricity to supplement their potential treatment.

The one piece in the family including the intention of ancient the most potential is the fill up geyser. Broadcast realized this and stanch to use the tiny practically priced solar panels to aid their habitual electricity to excitement up the fill up. This saves a lot of electricity in the all-function household. An flush more commanding administer of heating the fill up itself has been bent.

Including so loads of methods to initiation skilled sterile potential the planet is early to preview positively at eco energy. One of the chief ones is the nuclear manner. Here has been a lot of conversation nearly the environmentally cordiality of these types of sow even if.

Balancing motherhood and lawschool--another balancing post

*Note: This post is a "balancing motherhood with ..." post, but I thought I'd post it anyways. Better late than never, right?*

I found out I was pregnant with my first child during my first week at law school. I also found out, at the same doctor?s visit, that I had mono. Needless to say, I felt a bit overwhelmed. I cried a lot that next week. The dean of students at the law school advised me to defer for a year, or at the very least, to take a lighter load that semester. But I was too stubborn. I was determined to go on with my plans, and my husband supported me. So I started law school. That semester was miserable?I would wake up in the mornings, lie in bed for an hour or so before I had the energy to even sit up (but since I was in law school, I?d study as I lay there, feeling like I was going to vomit and learning about torts), then I would get up, get dressed, throw up, eat breakfast, try really hard not to throw up again, and somehow drag myself the three blocks or so to school. I didn?t get over morning sickness until literally the week before finals. The next semester was slightly better, in that I was no longer (as) morning sick, but since I had recovered from mono, I caught every bug that came through, and each time the cold or flu or whatever it was would last weeks. I made it through the second set of finals somehow, for some reason put myself through the torture of write-on for law review, and a week later, had my first baby. I wasn?t one of those mothers who instantly bonded with her baby, and felt an instant conversion to motherhood. I know women like that, and deep down inside I had always hoped I would be one. But I wasn?t. Don?t get me wrong, I loved my baby. But I felt like I was babysitting someone else?s kid for the first two or three months. I kept wondering when Gideon?s mother would come pick him up, then realize with a start that I was Gideon?s mother. And on top of that, I was hit with a full-fledged case of baby blues. I don?t think it was quite post-partum depression, but it was close. But it wasn?t all sad and depressing. During that summer I didn?t have to worry about law school, and even though fitting in my 10 hours of work a week was a lot more challenging than I had thought it would be with a newborn, I had lots of time with my baby. Slowly we grew accustomed to each other, and I learned how to be a mother. I loved watching his little expressions, playing with him on the living room floor, nursing him, taking him for long walks, or just holding him. We went hiking with him, camping with him, and roadtripping with him, and had all sorts of fun. We discovered that while life with a baby is different than life as just a couple, it is still good.

Once school started again, though, we didn?t really get another break. I was in school full-time that year, then that summer I was working part time for half the summer, and attended school in Oxford the second half of the summer. Jake and Gideon came with me, but of course I had to spend several hours a week studying or in class. Then it was back to school again, this time while I was pregnant with my second. Although the second pregnancy was incomparably better than the first, pregnancy still limits what you can and can?t do with your toddler.

I can tell you, I never expected motherhood while in school to be like this. To be honest, I hadn't really planned on doing the babies-in-school thing. I love school, and I am a fairly driven person, but I had decided a long time ago that when I had kids, I'd be a stay-at-home mom. So?I had originally thought that I would just have my babies, stay home with them like my mom did with me, and when they grew up, I could go to law school and go straight into practice. When I got the prompting to go to law school now, I was a little surprised. This wasn't my plan. And if you do law school, you kind of have to work for at least a few years afterwards as well. But at last, I made a bargain with Heavenly Father (yes, I am a bit of a brat sometimes). I told him, fine, if he wanted me to go to law school now, I?d do it, but I?d always planned on having kids soon after I was married, and I wasn?t planning on changing that, just so he knew.?

So of course, I expected an easy pregnancy and a fat, happy, laid-back baby, because how else would I do law school with kids? Instead, I got a very difficult pregnancy, and a child that, although he was a fairly easy baby, was a live-wire who ever since he was born has been constantly on the move. So law school was a bit of a challenge.I decided, first thing, that I didn?t want my baby to feel like he was second to law school for me. So I tried (not always successfully) to spend as much time with him as I could. This meant missing out on a lot of the law school activities and even ward activities, and spending most of my free time at home. In retrospect, I think I could have done a better job at balancing having a baby and having a social life, but I was doing the best I knew how at the time. I tried to do most of my studying at home as well, even if I was less productive, because it at least made me feel like I was spending time with my baby. My hubby was very supportive, and spent a lot of time taking care of Gideon and doing laundry and dishes and that sort of thing so that I could go to class and study, and because of that I didn?t even need to get a babysitter on a regular basis except during my second-to-last semester. I also had to learn to say no. I have always been the kind of person who likes to do everything and be involved in everything. After having my baby, I had to be very selective about what I would get involved with, even if they were things I would have loved to be a part of or would have really enjoyed, such as being on traveling teams with the school, or being a member of different clubs or groups, or even volunteering to help somebody out. I tried a couple of times, and I learned that I could not do that and keep my sanity. So I learned to really minimalize my life. I?ll be honest, though, it wasn?t always easy. Often I would be supposedly spending time at home with my baby, but I would be surfing the internet or checking facebook or any number of other things because I simply didn?t want to deal with the stress and work of playing with Gideon after dealing with the stress and work of school. Or I would find myself, rather than taking time to enjoy Gideon, I would be searching about for ways to distract him somehow until Jake got home. But I guess that?s part of learning to be a mother?at least, it was for me. I guess the hardest part of doing school with a baby for me was the guilt factor. I felt constantly guilty that I wasn?t a stay-at-home mom, that I had to drop my baby off with friends and family sometimes so I could study or go to class, that I didn?t spend enough time with my husband, that I didn?t spend enough time with my baby, and that I wasn?t a good enough homemaker. It was kind of silly, really?I guess I expected to be able to be superwoman, calmly taking care of children, doing housework and cooking and baking and cleaning, spending lots of quality time with my spouse, and at the same time sailing easily through law school with a quality social life on the side. It didn?t work out that way, and I had to come to terms with what I was doing. I had to realize that I couldn?t do it all, and I should stop expecting myself to do it all. While it would have been nice to be a stay-at-home mom like my mom was and always be there for my baby, it was also healthy for him to develop a strong relationship with his dad and spend time with him, and to spend time with his aunty and uncle, who would babysit for me often. I didn?t have to feel guilty for that. It was ok that I didn?t cook once the semester got underway, or that Jake always did the laundry, or that the house was sometimes a mess and my social life was almost non-existent at times. It was ok that I wasn?t the first one to volunteer for a service project, or that I didn?t always go to ward or school activities. Honestly, I still do feel guilty about it sometimes. I still feel kind of guilty that Gideon?s early childhood was such a crazy whirlwind, that I didn?t get to know a whole bunch of people during my law school years, all sorts of things. But honestly, I think what I did was the right thing. There are things I regret, and things I wish I knew how to balance better. But I?m not sorry I decided to have Gideon and Caleb when I did, nor that I did law school when I did. Now that I?m graduated, my life is a little different. I?m still trying to adjust to it, and to learn to be a mother in this setting rather than in the law school setting. I guess maybe that?s how motherhood is?just when you think you have it figured out, it changes. But I?m excited for this new stage of life. And even though I?m not sure now why I was supposed to go through law school when I did, I?m sure some day I?ll look back on it and understand. As of right now, I?m just trying to take the lessons I?ve learned from it and put them towards being a good mom in my latest stage of life.

Mary Hart: An Icon Of Modern Celebrity Steps Down After Nearly 30 Years

Mary Hart has hosted Entertainment Tonight since 1982. She's now stepping down.

After 29 years, Mary Hart is stepping down as host of the CBS show Entertainment Tonight ? presumably with those legs once insured for a million dollars each. It's television's longest-running entertainment show, and Hart's been with it almost since the beginning. She helped create a kind of news that, like it or not, has come to permeate the culture.

Before Entertainment Tonight, regular folks weren't expected to be interested in the industry side of the entertainment industry.

"We were the first ones to talk about television ratings and box office grosses over the weekend," Hart pointed out during our interview inside her pastel-colored bungalow near ET's Studio 4 on the Paramount Lot. Now, that kind of news is just part of regular mainstream coverage.

If you read old interviews with Mary Hart, as with many celebrities, the same stories tend to crop up over and over. Mary Hart's been a dominant force in entertainment news for almost thirty years, so naturally, many of her stories are about interviewing celebrities.

That's why I decided not to ask her about her favorite celebrity interviews. It felt deeply boilerplate. Plus, I'd read about them all already. Her private dinner with the ever-so-shy Michel Jackson. Her t?te-?-t?te with Annette Funicello after the latter's diagnosis of MS. Her chats with other ailing celebrities, including Richard Pryor and Christopher Reeve.

But Mary Hart is so accustomed to talking about her favorite interviews, she went ahead and told me about one anyway. One I hadn't heard before. And it was such a good story, I couldn't resist putting it on the air.

"She was such a dear lady, she was already 91 years old," Hart exclaimed about the venerable stage actress Helen Hayes. "I was sitting in her living room, we had all of our lights and everything set; it was quite the setup in this charming little old lady's house. And all of a sudden one of the lights stands fell. Hit. Her. On. The. Head. She falls over onto her sofa and I'm sitting there going, 'Oh my gosh! We just killed Helen Hayes!'"

This is what makes Mary Hart impressive. She chose a great anecdote that she knew NPR's audience would appreciate. No wonder she's flourished in an industry often unkind to aging ladies. (Helen Hayes being another rather obvious exception.) Anne Helen Petersen, an academic who's studied the gossip industry and the rise of entertainment, says ET was smart to hang onto Hart.

"This is the 34-60 audience, this is really her prime demographic," Petersen observed of the age of the show's audience. "Mostly women, middle class."

For those women, Hart provided a likeable bridge to the stars. She combines former beauty-queen glamour with a goofy, self-deprecating sensibility that Hart herself defines as Midwestern. When I asked her if her persona took work, she was startled. "Golly! No! It's not work at all." She was equally affable when I wondered if she felt that ET bore any responsibility for creating an appetite for celebrity news that's resulted in obsessive stalkerazzi and the aggressive media entity TMZ.

"I think there is a meaner tone, and I don't just see it in entertainment news. It's just ... in general," she pointed out.

As Entertainment Tonight's backstage access and sneak previews are being supplanted by mean, lean multimedia formats, its audience is slipping away. (By around two million viewers over the past ten years, according to figures provided to NPR by the Nielsen Company.) As Mary Hart exits, for the last time, the blinking orange stage that set up a shift in American news programming, it is indeed the end of an era.

Bibliobanter: Review Philosophy ? On a Book Bender

I have been doing a lot of thinking about reviews (mine in particular) lately. ?What makes them good? ?What information is necessary? ?I don?t exactly have concrete answers to these questions, mostly because I think it is highly subjective, but I can talk about how I approach reviewing, and more importantly ? reading. ?The short version of this can be found in my Review Policy page, but the following discussion provides greater explanation.

Last year, I took a graduate course on reading and listening comprehension. ?It was more geared toward reading and listening in a foreign language, but we first had to learn what reading (and listening) entails. ?I won?t bore you with the technical details (and to be truthful, I probably don?t remember all the details), but one important factor in a person?s reading experience is the purpose for reading. ?As a teacher, this means I should give my students the reason(s) why they are reading a particular piece (gain knowledge? practice a specific skill?). ?As a reader, it means that my purpose behind reading a book influences the way I will eventually perceive it.

I am not a critic. ?And despite being 1 course shy of a Master?s degree in English, my emphasis is on teaching the language to non-native speakers, not literature. ?When I read a non-school book, I read for entertainment. ?When I do this ? and when I?m truly entertained by the book ? I read faster, and I notice fewer details because my mind is focused on the overall meaning and story line. ?So reviewing a book I especially like can prove to be difficult to utter anything more intelligent than, ?OMG, this book is awesome.? ?If I read a book I am not overly fond of, I read slower and I begin to pick up the details ? especially those that contribute to my dislike of the book. ?Writing a book review about I book that I enjoyed is actually more difficult for me because the speed at which I read caused me to focus not on details that would be useful for review, but on the story as a whole. ?Which makes me wonder: What do people actually look for in a review?

Another thing that I learned in my course was that factors such as our background knowledge and previous reading experience can also affect how we eventually perceive a book. ?Our own personal preferences play a role in this as well. ?I read a post someone?s book blog recently (I don?t who it was or how I found it) that drew attention to the fact many people use a lot of ?I? in their review. ??I liked/didn?t like?? etc. ?To me, it is impossible to explain a book without offering my reaction to it. ?If you?re looking for an objective summation, read the back of the book (I always include a summary in my reviews, but it is never written by me). ?Reading a book is an incredibly subjective and personal experience, and how I see (and review) a book will differ from the rest of the book blogging community ? even if many of us review it favorably. ?Something that made the reading experience?excruciatingly?slow for me ? short chapters, for example ? may not have the same effect for other readers. ?And when I review a book, I want people to know why I did or did not like it; my review is not objective, it reflects my opinion. ?This is why I try to include a ?You Might Like This Book If?? section. ?Just because I wasn?t fond of a certain book doesn?t mean I think everyone else will dislike it, and I believe that every book deserves a chance.

Do you have a review philosophy? ?What do you look for in a review?

Gillibrand Calls for First Responders Communications Bill ...

(WASHINGTON)? --? U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer from New York, as well as other prominent Democrat Senators John Rockefeller IV of Virginia, Barbara Boxer of California, and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota called on the House and the Senate to pass a communications bill that would make it easier for emergency responders to communicate.

"New York City remains the number one target for terrorists around the world who want to harm Americans," Senator Gillibrand said.? "Nearly ten years after 9/11, it's time to bring our first responder technology into the 21st century.? If we're going to keep our communities safe, we must ensure that local, state, and federal first responders can effectively communicate with each other in real time during a national crisis."

Gillibrand wants the Public Safety Spectrum and Wireless Innovation Act to be passed before the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The act would set aside additional airwaves for the emergency responders to build a nationwide wireless broadband network.

Male coffee drinkers at significanlty lower risk of prostate cancer

May 20, 2011 at 4:09 AM by AHN ? ?

David Goodhue ? AHN News Reporter

Boston, MA, United States (AHN) ? More good news for coffee drinkers: a follow-up study by Harvard School of Public Health researchers suggests men who regularly drink the beverage are at a significantly lower risk of developing a deadly form of prostate cancer.

Even better news is that the benefit is there for men who drink both regular and decaffeinated coffee.

Coffee contains many beneficial compounds that act as antioxidants, reduce inflammation and regulate insulin. These compounds may influence prostate cancer, the researchers said. Coffee has been linked in previous studies with a lower risk of Parkinson?s disease, type-2 diabetes, gallstone disease, liver cancer and cirrhosis of the liver.

The Harvard study found specifically that men who consumed six or more cups a day had almost a 20 percent lower risk of developing any form of prostate cancer. Men in the study who were heavy coffee drinkers had a 60 percent lower risk of developing lethal prostate cancer.

But even drinking one to three cups a day was associated with a 30 percent lower risk of lethal prostate cancer, the researchers said.

Coffee drinkers are more likely to smoke and less likely to exercise, but even after adjusting for these factors, the beverage was still associated with a lower risk of prostate cancer.

A full report on the study is published in the May 17 online edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Why Angelina Jolie Agonized Over the Title of Her Directorial Debut

ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images

Angelina Jolie says she struggled with the title of her directorial debut, which landed a U.S. distributor at Cannes on Sunday.

The movie will be called In the Land of Blood and Honey, a title that she settled on just ahead of Sunday's announcement that FilmDistrict will release the movie Dec. 23 in the U.S.

She told Entertainment Weekly that coming up with the title was "driving me crazy. I have lists and lists of titles all over."

She cited the subject matter of the film, which is set against the backdrop of the Bonsian Civil War in the 1990s, as the primary reason she was having such a hard time.

"It's a heavy film," she added. "You want to find that title that really helps the audience know what they're walking into."

The movie stars Zana Marjanovic (Snow), Goran Kostic and Rade Serbedzija (In the Rain). Jolie worked with a completely local cast, filming the project in both Serbo-Croation, the language spoken at the time of the war, and English. FilmDistrict will be releasing the English-language version.

In making the announcement, Jolie said: "The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it's also universal. I wanted to tell a story of how human relationships and behavior are deeply affected by living inside a war."

Q&A: what do u think about Online,internet dating/relationships ...

I?ve been doing online dating for 5 years now and I can safely say that it works, most of the time. It?s not unlike regular dating, you have to be charming and on your best side to have a chance, but it?s easier because you don?t need to see each other face to face.

Is that a good thing? Yes and no. Yes, because if you are nervous around women and don?t have the courage to talk to them face to face, online dating is your world. but the whole thing is kinda impersonal, the woman will not take you seriously for several days or weeks while she ?dates? other men too(you would probably do the same online). If she likes you she chooses you and you meet, if she doesn?t then you just wasted a couple of days/weeks. this is how it?s done. Simple, impersonal and I think that it lacks the emotional factor that is so important in a starting relationship. you don?t really know who she really is until you meet and you could be very disappointed with what you see in person. I don?t mean that she lied about her apperance and she is a 3-headed troll in person, it?s just sometimes we want a woman to be someone else than she really is. We imagine a good-looking, funny, intelligent and talkative girl, and we meet a silent, grey little mouse who is less interesting than a rake. These things can happen and everyone who starts online dating has to accept that.

But don?t be discouraged because of this, online dating is the answer if it?s not working the other way. but before you start it, sit down and think about these things: do you really need online dating? Do you want to do it because you are not good with women in person? Have you tried meeting a woman in person, shall we say in a houseparty or other social events(pool, bowling, ice skating etc)? If you did, then I suggest against online dating. I have a motto about online daters: everyone who online dates has some kind of dark little secret that prevents them from dating in the ?real world?. If you think about it, it makes sense doesn?t it? there is a beautiful girl on the dating site, you look at her pictures, you read her description and you ask yourself: why on earth is she here?? what forces a pretty and intelligent girl to date online, when she could get anyone out there? Makes no sense. there has to be some reason these men and women can?t find a partner and sometimes the answer is freightening. I dated a nice girl for 4 months and HER dirty secret was that she never wanted to have sex. I don?t mean that she didn?t want to do it then, she NEVER wanted to have it. you see, everyone has a reason for dating online.

Of course not everyone is a freak, they just don?t have the time to go out or something like that, or seeking the love of their life and they failed to do it in person. there are a lot of bitter and dished women online who are just desperate to get some attention. there are two types of bitter women: the ones who jump on your profile as soon as you register, and the ones that are always suspicious of you and you have to constantly prove to them that you are not just another bastard sex-crazed man-animal. Don?t worry, if you found the right person it will last just as long as a relationship that didn?t start online. From the point you meet in person, the whole thing becomes like all other relationships.

The pros of online dating:

- sometimes faster ? you can date more women at a time and choose later ? it?s free ? no stress ? comfortable ? you get to know the woman a little before meeting ? online daters are always free, so no misunderstanding

And the cons:

- sometimes slower(you may have to write a lot before you meet) ? you don?t really know who is on the other computer ? tons of scammers and idiots ? the girl you?d like to date might live far away ? everyone is braver when online, but might differ in person ? what you see is what you get doesn?t always apply ? the whole thing just lacks the emotional factor

I think this is enough for you to get the picture. the bottom line is: if you can date in bars and any other outdoor places, do so. If you can?t, learn it. If it?s impossible, THEN resort to online dating.

The Joys of Youth Sports: Summer Softball and Baseball ? Articles ...

I started playing little league baseball around the age of ten. We did not have the coach-pitch model nor did every one hit in every inning; we kept score, determined a winner, and pretty much the top kids played most of all the time. I am not sure how long the coach-pitch concept has been around, and I do not know when leagues stopped keeping score and determining a winner, but maybe this can be viewed as a reason why so many kids today feel like they are owed something or that they can never make mistakes.

I remember having a discussion with my wife about the proper age to enroll our daughter in sports. Yes, she wanted to play only because she was asked. My hypothesis is that she should be close to being athletically developed before playing organized sports. I spent many hours watching my nephew pick grass on the soccer field, or running the wrong way with the basketball because he was not even close to being developed athletically. These things he did because he did not have the athletic skills, at the time, to be able to comprehend the concept of the games he was playing.

Could this trend have taken place because parents start their kids out in sports way too early? Many people think they have to get the kiddies started early because of the competition factor. If your kid posses the ability and talent to play competitively, the extra year or two of little league are not going to really help your ball player and may hinder his or her sport?s growth.

One reason starting athletes too young can impede athletic development is that if your child does possess this talent, odds are he or she will be in the minority on his team. Therefore, while he may be hitting and making plays, no one else on the team is doing so, and this stops junior?s chances because he cannot learn game situations or concepts because the coach is always working with the other ball players so they will throw the ball to the right base and not be picking grass in right field.

I say this because I watch my daughter?s team play. She is in second grade as are most of her teammates. My wife coaches them and she asked me yesterday how the other coaches can get their kids to throw to throw right base or understand the game situation. I told her it is either because the team is crammed with advanced players or the coach drills on fundamentals. Anyway, the kids on my daughter?s team don?t field very well and still do not throw properly. Yes, they do learn some skills and the kids do appear to have, and that in itself is the best part of watching these games, but I am afraid her interest may wane because she bagan too early with youth sports.

The Xperia Play, also known as the PlayStation phone, will be available for pre-order starting Thursday. Photo: Charlie Sorrel

If you?ve been itching to get your twitchy thumbs on the Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson?s much-anticipated PlayStation phone, you don?t have to wait much longer.

The PlayStation phone will be available through Verizon Wireless starting May 26th, but you can pre-order it starting Thursday. It?ll be available for $200 with a two-year contract.

PlayStation phone rumors first began way back in 2008, but didn?t start gaining traction until last fall, when detailed specs and leaked images cropped up. Gadget Lab got a chance to get our hands on the Xperia Play when it was officially announced at Mobile World Congress in February.

The Xperia Play will come stocked with seven free game titles: Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, The Sims 3, Madden NFL 11, Crash Bandicoot, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Star Battalion, and Tetris. Verizon?s mobile app store will have 50 other games available for download when the phone launches.

Sony Ericsson?s PlayStation phone will run Android 2.3 on a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and will feature a front facing camera and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. Underneath the 4-inch capacitive touchscreen is a slide-out gaming pad with PlayStation keys, a touch joystick, and a D-pad.

Self Assertion for the Journey Ahead ? Self Improvement

Self Assertion for the Journey Ahead

Article by Steven Rendall

Self-help is one of the most sought after searches on the internet today. People have a natural desire to help themselves out of their own troubles.

Self-help is the primary means to achieving self-acceptance. If you have decided on self-help as the means to success, then congratulate yourself for taking personal responsibility for your problems. You have decided to work on accepting yourself on the basis of your intrinsic humanity. The problem many people face, is that they have the wrong approach to self help. One of the biggest reasons for people persistently putting themselves down, is that they hope to become a better person by calling attention to their mistakes, flaws, and failings. Unfortunately, this process frequently includes feeling depressed or anxious, which may already be underpinned by low self-esteem.Trying to solve an emotional problem at the same time as calling yourself useless and worthless and pathetic is much like trying to learn a new language while hitting yourself above the head with a frying pan! I think you would agree, this is not the ideal way to learn something new?

Helping yourself means to accept yourself. As you are a fallible human, you will very probably slip into putting yourself down from time to time, as every does ? me included! The aim of self-acceptance is to get into the habit of positive self-talk. The aim is to accept yourself more often and to accept yourself more quickly again and again. Accepting yourself has two interesting implications for overseeing emotional problems and personal development.

The first implication is being more effective in all areas of expression. Expressing your feelings readily when they occur can be a good antidote to bouts of unhealthy anger. By talking openly and appropriately about their emotional responses to events, people are less prone to unhealthy feelings like anger and depression. There are many resources available to learn tips and techniques to improve your communication skills and to deal with self-help in a healthy manner.

Being more assertive includes standing up for yourself in a non aggressive way. Assertion is not about using violence or aggression to get your point across. When you are being assertive you are still in control of your behaviour, but when you are using violence much of your behaviour is impulsive. Remember, people are far more likely to respond to your wishes when you are being assertive simply because you are making yourself clear ? not because they are afraid of your anger.Often, your aggression is about winning an argument and getting the other person to back down and agree that you are right. Assertion is not about winning or getting one over people. Rather, assertion is about getting your point across but not insisting that the other person agrees with you or backs down. If you have tendency to become angry, and get verbally or physically aggressive quickly, give yourself time out and go and count to ten. Very few good things come out of something said at the heat of the moment.

The second implication you of having greater self-acceptance is being more emotionally resilient. You are far more likely to respond to a negative event in a positive way and accept your own shortcomings in the same way that you accept shortcomings in other people. When we witness these things in other people we find them endearing, so give yourself the benefit of the doubt, after all, no one is perfect, right?

You are unique because no one is the same as you. At the same time, you?re also not different because everyone is an individual. All of us are special and flawed in equal measure. Self-acceptance will lead to healthy and appropriate emotional responses to difficult circumstances. This healthy emotional response leads to adaptive behaviours because you are much more comfortable in your own skin. However, if you are in the habit of being self-critical, expect unhealthy and unhelpful responses, which in turn lead to destructive behaviours. Don?t fall into the trap of giving up on trying anything new just because one new thing you tried did not work. Become more forgiving and improve your life today.

Personal Training Business Profits Increase With Communication ...

Do you want to run a successful personal training business? If so, you will have to sharpen your communication skills.

When you become a fitness expert you take your enthusiasm, and knowledge of health and fitness with the goal of empowering others. In order to motivate, and have a positive influence on others, you must utilize effective communication skills.

Your work like a personal fitness trainer is to educate, empower, and motivate individuals to maximize their own health and fitness. The only way to do all of this is thru proper verbal communication. The more you focus on enhancing your communications skills, the greater money you will make like a fitness expert.

One aspects of fitness expert training that is often overlooked works well communication.

When you first meet with a new fitness training prospect, or existing client, you should be thinking about the best way to get your important message across. This is applicable to the sales process, along with the actual personal fitness workout sessions.

To make use of effective communication in your personal training business you must first understand what kind of personality you?ve. Are you an extremely social person? Have you been quiet, and reserved? You should know this because what you must first interpret whenever you meet a customer is what kind of personality they?ve. Are they really social? Are they reserved? You must discover quickly, and pattern your presentation after their personality. If they are very quiet, reserved, and have a dry sense of humor, you shouldn?t be extremely loud, and overly enthusiastic during your sales presentation, as well as future fitness training sessions. This type of behavior will most definitely turn them off.

Instead, you want to attempt a personal training business which presents information towards the client in a fashion that feels safe, and motivating to them. The largest advice I will give you once you be a fitness expert would be to pattern your personality after theirs.

Another personal fitness training tip I would like to offer you regarding effective communication would be to listen. Listening, also is an aspect of communication, will make you more money than you can possibly imagine. I always recommend fitness trainers to listen 80% of times, and talk only 20% of times. The fitness training session is about your client, not you. You would like your individual training clients to feel like they?re heard, and completely understood. If the objective is met, your clients will absolutely love you. Don?t believe me? Try it.

The old saying that personal training clients don?t care about how much you know, but no more than how much you care is actually correct. Clients want to trust that you really worry about them, as well as their fitness goals. This eventually leads to exercise adherence, and motivation.

Thunderbolt's free mobile hotspot extended through June 15, post-promo pricing revealed

 HTC Thunderbolt

According to Verizon's official Twitter account, Thunderbolt users will in fact get to enjoy another month of free mobile hotspot, presumably thanks to the Charge's delay and subsequent promo of its own:

@VZWSupport: @mgluna The free Hotspot offer has been extended through June 15th and includes Thunderbolt users. *CM

Now that Thunderbolt and Charge users are on the same page, it looks like Verizon's ready to price the LTE hotspot feature post-promotion with the same structure currently in place for its 3G hotspot:

@VZWSupport: @jthomas99 The cost of the Hotspot Feature is $20.00 for a 2GB allowance once the promotion ends. *CM

Remember, blowing through 2GBs on LTE will be a much quicker task than on the 3G network, but we won't get too antsy until we see it in written in stone. With that said, is $20 worth it? Who'll be signing up on June 15?

Thanks everyone who sent this in!

marketing for online business|promotional marketing online ...

Question by BERTRAM E: promotional marketing online business tools?
i am trying to market my online business. i have heard of some marketing tools that will help people market their products online, like ? reverse word search, adwords, and etc. i need help. i know there is a way to do this ? the promotional spots that appear at the top of a search page ? i want to be able to get that type of marketing spot. any referrals, or books would be so grateful. thank you for any help.

Best answer:

Answer by Robert
Bertram what you mentioned about the promotional spots is sponsored ads.

This is known as ppc (pay per click) where you place an ad, and when someone clicks on the ad,you get charged.

I don?t mean to be rude but it seems like you don?t have a full understanding of this type of marketing and i?d find out as much as possible before you get started with ppc. Many people lose a lot of money on adwords (googles name for sponsored ads) by not doing proprer research.

There are many things needed for a successful ad campaign. Key word research is the most important.

If you want to have chat about adwords or you need help with anything reguarding marketing methods, feel free to contact me.

best wishes

robert

Review: The Apple iPod contact brings many iPhone 4 options ...

Last week Apple found out its new iPod lineup and the handiest one that attracted my pastime was the 4th era iPod touch. I have an iPhone 3GS, however for the ultimate 6-8 months I have most effective used it as an iPod and hardly used it as a phone and I am now not going to add an AT&T account just to get an iPhone 4. The iPod touch offers a lot of what we see in the iPhone 4, together with the 3.5 inch retina display, HD video recording, FaceTime reinforce with the front going through camera, and A4 processor. I offered my iPhone 3GS on Craigslist and bought a 32GB iPod touch to substitute it, all at no out-of-pocket cost. I have now spent a number of hours with my new iPod contact and am relatively happy with the purchase. Check out a few photographs in my brief picture gallery, the video walkthrough embedded underneath, and my first impressions.

Available choices and box contents

The iPod contact is available in 8GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities. The 8GB fashion is available for $229, the 32GB for $299, and the 64GB for $399. There were not yet any 64GB fashions in my native retailer, however it seems to be love all are available for acquire on the Apple site. It seems to me that the 32GB is a no brainer over the 8GB where you get quadruple the reminiscence for simply $70 more.

Inside the box you will find the iPod contact, stereo earphones, USB 2.0 cable and Quick Start guide. The packing containers keep getting smaller and smaller and are made of clean plastic.

Specifications

Specifications of the iPod contact 4th technology include the following:

-3.5 inch 960?640 pixel determination display
-8GB, 32GB, or 64GB interior flash memory capacity
-802.11 b/g/n WiFi
-Bluetooth 2.1
-Video camcorder that records H.264 VGA video, 960?720 pixels, up to 30 frames in step with 2d with AAC audio
-Internal mic for voice recording and VoIP calls
-3.5mm headset jack
-3-axis gyro, accelerometer, and light sensor
-4.4 x 2.3 x 0.248 inches and 3.56 ounces

In comparison, the iPhone 4 has a still digital camera that captures 5 megapixel image even though the back digital camera on the iPod contact handiest captures still pictures at 0.92 megapixels. I by no means print my camera pictures besides so if the camera can seize images excellent sufficient for posting to Facebook and Twitter then so much of us may not even discover this low choice digital camera. The iPhone 4 additionally has an IPS show that offers better viewing angles, however on the grounds that I don?t have an iPhone 4 and I don?t in reality understand why you want such a wide viewing perspective I don?t see any problem right here both. The lack of GPS is a bit difficult to me considering I could have used the iPod touch for GPS navigation and for working out with the Nike Plus reinforce to track my runs. Google Maps is included, but it just makes use of the WiFi radio to estimate your location and GPS could have been a welcome characteristic.

'Badass' Guys: Giving History A Kick (And A Punch)

Badass: The Birth of a Legend
By Ben Thompson
Paperback, 384 pages
Harper Perennial
List Price: $16.99

Thor

Thor was the head-smashing Norse god of Lightning, Thunder, storms, being awesome, and killing Giants in the face with a meatnormous magical hammer. The son of the god Odin and the goddess Earth, Thor was the defender of the heavenly land of Asgard, the toughest warrior among the gods, an original Avenger, best friends with Captain America and Iron Man, and the guy who everybody called on whenever they needed some pompous douche's ass kicked out through his forehead.

The life of Thor reads like a loosely-associated amalgamation of badass battles and duels thrown together into one epic narrative of carnage and destruction. This bloody succession of continual assbeatings usually takes place at the expense of the hapless race of the Frost Giants, a group of impossibly-large hardcore humanoids who Thor intensely detested for a variety of borderline-justifiable reasons. For instance, one time a Giant architect threw an unnecessarily-violent temper tantrum when the gods stiffed him on the tab after building a set of impenetrable fortifications for Valhalla, so Thor paid the guy back by caving in his skull with a hammer. Another time some Giant snuck into Thor's house, drank all of his ale, and boasted that he was going to go off and have a rape-tastic threesome with Thor's wife and the fertility goddess Freyja, and it took the take-no-bullcrap Norse hero roughly five seconds to haul ass back home, crash his glorious flowing locks through the walls of Valhalla like a blonde wrecking ball, and challenge that soon-to-be-excerebated d-bag to a one-on-one deathmatch. The dude showed up to the dueling field clad in armor made from stone and accompanied by a twelve-foot-tall clay golem, but nothing was going to deter Thor's implacable fury and insatiable desire for Giant homicide. The Defender of Asgard was so ferocious and pissed about the whole "I'm going to rape your wife" comment that the golem took one look at this guy and started urinating uncontrollably on itself, whizzing itself so hard that liquid piss melted the clay and dissolved the creature down into a fetid pool of failure and defeat and golem urine. That's right, folks ? Thor was so crap-your-pants scary that he could make inanimate constructs spontaneously spawn an execratory system solely for the purposes of wetting themselves. In the ensuing battle between god and giant, Thor got a broken-off hunk of a whetstone lodged in his head but didn't even blink ? he just chucked his hammer right through the giant's eye, blowing his brains out like a close-ranged headshot with a sawn-off twelve-gauge.

In addition to being utterly terrifying, super-strong, and rocking a glorious 1980s hair metal mane that was, according to the stories, "more beautiful than gold," Thor was also the owner of the legendary weapon Mjolnir. Mjolnir was a fully-rad warhammer that never missed its mark when thrown and always seemed to bring about the vicious blunt-force trauma death of anyone Thor deemed worthy of a painful demise. This kickass hunk of magically-enchanted runestone was so intensely hardcore that if you even so much as touched the thing without wearing a special pair of iron gloves, the magical energy exuded by the weapon would freak out and melt your hand.

While Mjolnir is easily one of the sweetest blunt weapons from mythology, Thor didn't need its super-crushing powers to go out and pummel you into a bloody smear on the asphalt. One time Loki was captured by the Giant Geirrod and his three evil daughters, and in exchange for freedom, Norse religion's patron god of Being a Total Douchebag agreed to trick Thor into venturing into Giant Land without his signature weapon. Thor showed up, looking to save Loki from imminent peril, and was immediately ambushed. First, one of the giant ogress daughters angered Thor by taking a piss in a river while he was trying to walk through it, so he killed her by flinging a rock through her head. Then two more giantesses tried to crush him by smashing him repeatedly against the ceiling of their stone cottage, but he got both hands on the ceiling, pushed down, and snapped both their backs with one mighty shove. Then Geirrod himself showed up and started taunting the already-berserk Norse god, so Thor grabbed a piece of molten hot iron out of the fireplace and threw it so hard that it went through a solid stone pillar, through Geirrod's torso, and blew a hole through the wall behind him. I like to think that after all this happened Thor grabbed a flagon of mead, chugged it in one gulp, and smashed the empty mug down on the ground before making a James Bond style one-liner and walking off like nothing happened.

Thor lived in a gigantic 540-room Valhalla-style fortress called Bilskirnir, which was appropriately situated in the middle of the Plains of Strength. His favorite hobbies included drinking mead by the barrel, wading through rivers, riding around on a chariot pulled by horse-sized goats, and making expeditions into uncharted lands for the sole purpose of wasting as many Giant asses as he could fling his hammer at (which turns out to be a lot). This guy was so good at getting crunked up on fermented honey and using his mallet to hammer people into the ground like meaty tent pegs that, according to Norse myth, thunder was actually the sound of Thor bashing a guy's head into pulp, and the tides were believed to have been created when Thor sucked down half of the ocean as part of a drinking contest after a Giant magically transformed it into mead.

Another good drinking story has Thor getting invited to feast at the palace of some random member of the Frost Giant nobility. If you were a Giant, you'd think Thor would be the last guy you'd want to have hanging around your dinner table, but apparently this particular household didn't possess the common sense necessary to come to this conclusion themselves, and thought it might be fun to die painful deaths at the hands of the Norse god of smiting. Interestingly, things were actually going fine until everyone in attendance soon became kind of horrified when, during the course of one all-you-can-eat super buffet smorgasbord feast, Thor ate an entire ox, eight salmon, and chugged three full barrels of mead. When the Giants (who, by the way, were largely portrayed in Norse sagas as ogre-like barbarians) gave Thor a hard time about consuming half of their food in the span of a few dozen ultra-manly gulps, the bane of giantkin decided that for dessert he would just kill everyone in the dining hall with a hammer, because screw them for talking smack about his etiquette skills. So he did.

Thor was also a master of fishing, which seems like it would be kind of incongruous for a guy who shoots lightning out of his hands. Nevertheless, the presumably-superconductive god once went with his buddy on a weekend fishing trip aimed at catching the horrifically-evil Midgard Serpent ? a giant-ass sea monster so enormous that its body measured the entire circumference of the Earth. Thor rowed out to the edge of the world in a crappy little wooden boat, threw his line in, snagged the beast, and lifted it up out of the water, but just as he was getting ready to bust its skull (hammer-fishing is way more hardcore than spear fishing, by the way) Thor's buddy freaked out and cut the fishing line, sending the ghastly monstrosity back below the waves. Thor was so pissed off that he punched the dude in the mouth, kicked him overboard, and rowed home by himself.

The Maestro of Hammer-humping Giants in the mouth also plays a central role in one of the crucial events of Norse Mythology ? the incredibly-bizarre death of the god Baldur. The short version of the myth is that Baldur, Thor's half-brother and the god of being inoffensive, cool, and beloved by everyone, was murdered one day when the prankster god Loki tricked a blind dude into throwing a sprig of mistletoe at him. Why Baldur was so allergic to mistletoe that a relatively-unsharpened branch flung vaguely in his direction caused him to spontaneously combust into a cloud of death is somewhat incomprehensible, but needless to say everybody was pretty pissed off about the whole situation. Thor led the funeral service, blessed his half-brother's funeral pyre, and swore vengeance on Loki. Then, out of the blue, some random jackass Dwarf started being disrespectful and talking really loudly during the funeral service, so Thor booted the jerk into the flaming pyre with a swift kick to the balls. I find this hilarious.

Thor's next mission was to track down Loki and make sure that he was brought to some incredibly-painful Viking-style justice. He tracked the Trickster god down, cornered him in a river, and when Loki morphed himself into a salmon and tried to swim away, Thor grabbed the fish by its tail and hauled it down to the underworld. Loki's first-born son was then disemboweled, and the dripping entrails were used to strap Loki down to a huge-ass rock. The gods then positioned a huge disgusting snake overtop of Loki so that it dropped super-venomous poison right into his eyes like a Chinese water torture device from some sadistic corner of Hell. From that point on, the Norsemen believed that earthquakes were caused by Loki screaming out in agony and attempting to break free. If strapping your ex-friend down with his dead kid's intestines sounds a little excessive to you, that's because Thor never half-assed anything in his life ? especially revenge.

Don't feel too badly for Loki, though ? he'll get his crack at vengeance eventually (and Thor will get a rematch battle with the Midgard Serpent), but I'll deal with both of those tales a little later when I talk about Surt.
