Pebble smartwatch gets a Nintendo-inspired watch face in first public SDK, because why not?

In case you missed our Pebble smartwatch review, here's a one-sentence recap: its functionality is pretty limited at the moment, but it does what it does very well, and it's reasonably priced, too -- especially if you were able to snag it for just $99. And it'll be an even better value once the company opens up the SDK to developers so they can go bananas with the custom software tricks. In fact, the very first public SDK will be released in the second week of April, with tools for creating wacky watch faces for the device's 144 x 168 screen. As you can see in the screenshot above, one developer has come up with a Mario-inspired theme, which should please folks who think the default option (the time, spelled out) is just a bit too twee. Additionally, Pebble is coming out with a separate firmware update next week, which should make it easier to switch between different watch faces. We've got a little more on that firmware change in a video past the break, and if you jump ahead a minute you'll even catch a glimpse of more watch faces -- you know, in case Nintendo nostalgia does nada for you.
