Though I am older and perhaps wiser now, and drink very little, I would recommend this book as long as the reader drinks in moderation ? and thinks in excess. Unlike other philosophical puzzle books, this one is meant for consumption at your local pub. Lawrence, professor of philosophy at Long Beach City College, offers 48 of the most perplexing philosophical problems (and 48 great beers ? two full cases!). He explains and examines each philosophical conundrum in no more time than it takes to drink the pint that accompanies it, and each pint amazingly has been selected expressly for its particular puzzle. For example, ?Zeno?s Paradox,? the oldest philosophical problem from ancient Greece, that of the Achilles? attempt to catch the tortoise that has been given a head start in a foot race to prove the view that reality is an unchanging, indivisible unity called being, is changed to taking a pint of Weihenstephan Original Lager ? from the world?s oldest brewery in Bavaria ? lifting it to your lips to take a sip, but think? about this ? in order to take that sip, the pint must first be hoisted up to your lips ?
