HP Touchpad Release Set for July 1

Hewlett-Packard's first webOS tablet will be released in the U.S. on July 1.

The product will be available from retailers, commercial resellers and direct from HP for $499.99 for the 16GB version and $599.99 for the 32GB model.

Preorders in North America and Europe begin June 19.

"What makes HP TouchPad a compelling alternative to competing products is webOS," said HP's Palm Global Business Unit senior vp and general manager Jon Rubinstein. "The platform's unmatched features and flexibility will continue to differentiate HP products from the rest of the market for both personal and professional use. This is only the beginning of what HP's scale can do with webOS."

According to the company, HP TouchPad users will access to the web, premium audio playback with stereo speakers and Beats Audio? technology, the ability to find information on the device or in the cloud using the Just Type feature, integrated access to their information with HP Synergy, and HP?s exclusive Touch to Share capability for sharing web addresses between HP TouchPad and compatible webOS phones.

HP also announced Thursday that it will be partnering with AT&T on a connected version of the HP Touchpad later this summer.

The tablet will roll out in the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany and Canada in July.
